Napa’s Team Xtreme Softball played in an Amateur Softball Association Class A tournament Sept. 25-26 in Davis, where its 12-and-under team took first place and its 14-and-under squad grabbed second place.

The 12-and-under team started off Saturday’s pool play with a 7-2 win over the Sparks Storm and a 12-0 rout of the Davis Lady Demons, before losing 4-2 to the Concord Lady Hawks.

Seeded No. 3 for Sunday’s elimination play, Xtreme defeated the Sparks Storm again, 8-2, then edged the Nevada Lightning, 3-2, in an extra-inning semifinal.

It was scoreless until the Lightning scored twice on errors in the top of the seventh. But the Xtreme tied it in the bottom half with key hits, held the Lightning in the top of the extra eighth, and scored the winner in the bottom half on a close play at the plate.

Xtreme got its rematch with the tough Concord Lady Hawks in the championship game. Getting unbelievable defense and outstanding hitting and pitching, the Napa squad prevailed, 7-0, to wrap up its 5-1 weekend.

Emily Schuttish, Joelle Aiello, Emily Baumbach and Kylee Towe all pitched well Saturday, and Aiello and Schuttish pitched great games on Sunday.

There was also outstanding offensive and defensive play from Kylee Malley, Megan Ochs, Kortney Cole, Emmah Meyer, Emerson Pratt, Hannah Siciliani and Ashley Vogen.

The 14-and-under team, playing in its first tournament of the fall, opened pool play on Saturday with a 9-7 loss to the Pleasant Hill Panthers.

But Xtreme won its next two, 5-4 over the Davis Commotion and 4-3 over the Davis Lady Demons, to grab the No. 4 seed for Sunday’s elimination play.

They defeated the Panthers again, 8-4, then won a semifinal over the NorCal Smackers, 6-3.

The Xtreme ended up falling to the Davis Commotion in the title game, 2-0.

Leading the Xtreme offensively were Nicole Price (.563 batting average, five singles, two doubles, two triples), Molly Schnurr (.428 with four singles and two triples), Chelsea Holland (.375 with three singles and three doubles) and Audrey Simich (.333 with five singles).

Brooke Parker and Simich provided excellent pitching, and Amanda Poppe, Emma Foote, Rebecca Morris, Rachel Lathum, Kacy Perkins and Emily Terry were outstanding on defense.

Team Xtreme Softball also announced the completion of its parent organization, Napa Xtreme Athletes, a registered 501c3 nonprofit with extensive 2011 goals of public and youth development with Class “A” softball and community outreach.
